Mangaluru, Jun 11: Dinesh Gundu Rao, district in-charge minister, instructed NHAI officials to repair all the national highways of Dakshina Kannada district and make them travel-worthy.
Gundu Rao spoke in the meeting held at the DC’s office in the city on Monday to overview the preparations for the monsoon.
The minister instructed NHAI officials to repair NH on B C Road-Kalladka-Mani stretch within a week, provide proper drainage facilities for rainwater flow, and develop roads for smooth traffic movement. He also asked the officials to monitor the road conditions and repair them if they deteriorate during the monsoon. Gundu Rao expressed his dissatisfaction with the delay in constructing stormwater drains on the Kalladka highway.
The matter was brought to the minister's attention by Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai. MLC Harish Kumar said that highway extension work is in progress on the Punjalakatte-Charmady stretch, which is affecting smooth traffic flow.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Mugilan informed that due to the mud piled under the new under-construction bridge at Kulur, there is a risk of hindering the river's smooth flow, which may lead to the collapse of the existing bridge. He also mentioned that NHAI officials have been informed of this issue and are urged to clear the mud as soon as possible.
Naveen, an official of NHAI, said, “Work is in progress to clear the mud below the new under-construction Kulur bridge. The work is being carried out on a priority basis to ensure smooth traffic flow on the Kalladka highway.”
