Mangaluru: 60% signage in Kannada or lose trade license - MCC commissioner

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 8: The commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has issued a warning stating that the trade licenses of shops failing to display Kannada language on their name boards will be cancelled.

In a statement released on Friday, MCC commissioner C L Anand stated, “According to the language policy of the government, all commercial complexes, industries, business houses, organizations, trusts, counselling centers, hospitals, laboratories, entertainment centers, and hotels are required to display 60% of Kannada language on their name boards as a mandatory requirement."

“We have received complaints regarding some entrepreneurs violating the rules set by the MCC. In the forthcoming days, it will be mandatory to prominently display Kannada language at the topmost position on the name boards of all industries and shopping complexes. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of the trade license by the MCC, without prior notice,” he said.

Kick out lousy politics like this. We speak Tulu & we are very happy with it. Give us proper infrastructure after robbing taxes from us for 5 decades for development of Bangalore & Delhi. We are not anyone's slaves. Where is the ring road for Mangalore ? Why is Bangalore, Delhi sitting on this matter for 11 years ?

This is absolute stupidity, the language used on the boards is the choice of the business owner alone and no one should be forced to do something that might affect their business negatively. Hiw to stop this? Is there a protest or some procedure to contest this rule?

This same MCC commisioner can't even ensure daily waste collection at homes, payment for which his MCC takes in advance. May be this fellow can concentrate on correcting that first than engaging in such theatrics!

MCC can't force anything because it already failed to shieft service bus stand, DC office,, RTO office . First of all our Commissioner must cancel the licence of all buildings where now parking area converted into shopes. If you have the guts cancel license of all those commercials complex. Our MCC is fit for to vacate poor footpath vendors only when Festival time.

Prior to cancelling trade license the MCC can earn few lacs by imposing penalties on the establishments who have violated the licensing norms. Our southern neighbor has taken the lead in hoisting Malayalam language all over Mangalore with total disregard to Kannada.

We want Tulu signage boards to be implemented, starting with the MCC. We hope that the local MLAs and MPs will advocate for this and work towards including Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. Regardless of political affiliation, the local community has been denied genuine progress. The state government’s diversion of the Nethravathi Rivershows that the state govt is only interested in diverting the natural resources of this region ..These actions threatens the survival of Tulu culture and language. As long as decisions are made in Bangalore and Mysore, Tulu culture will continue to decline. It’s time for Tuluvas to demand a separate state

"MANGALORE CITY CORPORATION" board is in English, please cancel their license. Board should be in Tulu, this isTulunad. Don't try to enforce kannada here, Tulunad people will cancel MCC commissioner C L Anand's license! Please concentrate on developing the city's infrastructure instead of enforcing unwanted stuff!!!
