Udupi, May 31: "The counting of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held on June 4, 2024, at St. Cecily’s Educational Institutions in Udupi. In preparation for the counting, Section 144 has been imposed in the district," announced Dr Vidyakumari, deputy commissioner (DC).
Addressing the press, Dr Vidyakumari outlined the security and procedural measures in place. "Three tiers of security have been established for the counting station. June 4 has been declared a dry day. The counting center is equipped with CCTV surveillance, and Section 144 is in effect in Udupi district. The counting will begin at 8 am, starting with postal ballots and ETPBS votes. The Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency will be counted in 19 rounds. A control room has been set up at the Udupi district commissioner’s office to handle queries regarding election counting and results. All agents have been issued color-coded passes based on their assembly constituency. Mobile phones, calculators, scissors, knives, weapons, and any sort of electronic device are prohibited inside the counting center. Candidates and agents are only allowed to bring a pen, paper, notepad, and a copy of Form 17C."
"The results of each round will be declared only after the election observer's approval. The winning candidate's certificate will be issued only upon receiving the Election Commission's approval," she added.
Regarding the MLC elections, Dr Vidyakumari stated, "The MLC elections will be held on June 3. To facilitate a smooth voting process, all eligible voters have been given a special holiday on the day of voting. Ten polling booths have been set up in the district for both the graduates and teachers constituencies. Eligible voters can cast their votes by providing photo ID cards."
