Mangalore: MRPL Blast - Managers of Contracting Firm Arrested

Mangalore, Oct 20: In connection with an incident in which a worker had died and four others had suffered serious injuries due to a blast inside the crude oil tank of MRPL under construction on Tuesday October 18, the police said they have arrested Qasim Kutti, regional manager of a firm to which sub-contract of the work was entrusted, and Riaz, security manager of the said firm.
It may be recalled that Mulla from Orissa had lost his life due to the execution of welding work inside a compartment of the tank where air pressure had built since some days. Four others also had suffered serious burn injuries in this incident. The condition of Rahim (25) from Bidar and Pappu Kumar from Bihar, whose injuries are grave, continues to be critical.
Mulla, who came to the city about a year back with his parents and siblings to work for MRPL, stayed at Katipalla. He lost his life in front of the eyes of his father. His was conducted at Suratkal graveyard on Wednesday evening. His father has been assured of being absorbed on employment at a higher cadre, while the family is promised of about six lac rupees from accident insurance and another Rs 6.5 lac from other sources.
