Udupi, May 22: With the onset of pre-monsoon rains in Udupi, concerns have surfaced at the Santhekatte underpass construction site due to water erosion. The first rainfall has inundated the area with sludge, exacerbating the situation at the site.
Rainwater, lacking proper drainage infrastructure, is directly impacting the underpass area, raising fears among locals of potential structural instability. A photograph capturing the scene, depicting a makeshift "waterfall," has been circulated widely on social media, with some making sarcastic remarks about it becoming Udupi's newest picnic spot.
Criticism has also been directed towards the former MP of Udupi–Chikkamagaluru, reflecting public frustration with the perceived lack of oversight and precautionary measures.
The absence of adequate gutter facilities has exacerbated the situation, prompting concerns about potential collapses if heavy rainfall persists. Urgent action is needed to address the drainage issues and reinforce safety measures to prevent further erosion and ensure the stability of the underpass construction site.
