Bantwal, May 19: The city police have cracked the activities of a team of Kerala origin, who had come to exchange counterfeit Indian currency notes in the local market and confiscated 506 fake currency note from them.
A car bearing Kerala registration number was parked in a suspicious manner besides the highway on B C Road on May 10. Bantwal city police station PSI Ramakrishna and staff went near the car. Two persons inside the car tried to escape and one was arrested. Later, another woman in the car was also arrested.
The accused arrested are identified as Mohammed C A (61) and Kamarunnisa (41), both natives of Choori of Koodlu village in Kasaragod district of Kerala. Another accused Sharif managed to escape. The police confiscated 46 fake notes of Rs 500 face value, Rs 5300 in cash and three mobile phone handsets.
The accused have been taken into police custody from judicial custody by the cops for further interrogation. The accused have confessed to the crime and said they used to bring counterfeit notes from Kerala and buy things from petty shops. They admitted that they used to tender fake notes of Rs 500 face value. Once they took the change for the genuine currency they used to return to Kerala.
SP C B Rishyant announced a cash prize to the police team led by inspector Anant Padmanabha for cracking the case.
