Mangaluru, May 1: The parents of five-month-old infant Priyon Sam Monteiro posted on social media about their child's deadly sickness, which has been affecting him since five days after birth. They appealed for Rs 50 lacs for the required surgery. Responding promptly, donors from within the country and abroad remitted Rs 60.62 lacs within 48 hours of the post. Konaje residents Santhosh Monteiro and Priya stated that further remittances were not needed as the required amount had already been collected.

Social activist Fayaz Madoor, speaking at a press conference held at Ullal Press Club, mentioned that Priyon's parents approached him for assistance in treating their five-month-old. A video, depicting the infant's condition at Narayana Hrudayalaya, was posted on Facebook and WhatsApp with his mother's consent, which led to a surge in donations from both local and international donors to the infant's parents' bank accounts. Apart from Catholic organizations, groups and associations of other religions, as well as philanthropists, extended their support. Fayaz remarked that the collection of such a substantial amount within such a short period was remarkable.

One stage of the surgery has been completed at Narayana Hrudayalaya, and the infant is now in stable health. The parents have requested that no further remittances be made, as the required amount has already been raised. They expressed their gratitude to all the donors.

The news conference was attended by the child's parents, Santhosh Monteiro and Priya, along with Naufal Deralakatte and Ivan Monteiro, the honorary president of Mercy Friends Asaigoli.
