Kundapur, Apr 12: A fourth-grade student who had gone to play in a private swimming pool to celebrate the Eid festival drowned in the pool.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Azeez (10). He had gone to a private resort at Hengavalli with his family members on Thursday to celebrate the Eid festival. Azeez was critically ill after he drowned in the swimming pool and later died.

The family members of the deceased boy have accused the negligence of the resort management as the reason for Azeez's death. They said that the incident occurred due to the absence of safety equipment like life jackets and the lack of lifeguards near the swimming pool.

Azeez is survived by his parents and scores of relatives and friends. He was a student at Darussalama English Medium School in Hoode. The school administration expressed its condolences on the sudden demise of Azeez.

Shankaranarayana police are further investigating the incident.
