Udupi, Oct 5: Twins studying in the same institution may be nothing out of the ordinary, but how about a whole lot of them filling up the college attendance register?
The temple town of Barkoor, near here, is in the news for having the maximum number of twins - there are eight pairs of twin students and one pair of twin lecturers at Rukmini Shedty Memorial National Government First Grade College.
Rama - Laxman, I B Com (A) students, from Kirady-Mandarti; Roopa-Shilpa, I B Com (B) students, from Marali-Nalkoor; Suprat - Suchendra, II BSW students, from Maranakatte; Lava-Kusha, I BSc students, from Herady; Rama - Laxman, BCA students from Kota; students Nouman - Noushin, from Udupi; Srilata - Sripada from Shankaranarayan; Ganesh-Gayatri from Vaddarse; and Ravi S-Chandra S, BSW lecturers, from Korgi, near Tekkatte here are grabbing the attention of local media.
It’s rare to find twins in a village and more unusual to find nine pairs of twins in the same neighbourhood. It is not easy to differentiate between twins unless you become familiar with them, so one can only imagine the situation with nine pairs of them, not to mention the lecturer twins too. Thankfully, as is the popular trend among twins, these pairs of students and teachers do not groom themselves in a similar way, and nor are they exactly alike, so it is easier to recognise.
College principal Professor Rajashekar Hebbar says, "It’s rare to find twins. It’s significant and a matter of pride for the college to have nine twins. The number of twins will go up as more students seek admissions in the next academic year, as the present students are studying in first and second degree classes. It's an opportunity to create a new record."
