Mysuru, Mar 24: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi dubbing him as ‘’nothing but a good event manager’’ while forgetting all his grandiose promises he had made to the people in his 10-year rule.
Addressing Congress party leaders of Mysuru-Kogadu and Chamarajangar parliamentary constituencies in Mysuru on Sunday, he said Modi does not have even a single pro-people welfare scheme and is forced to seek votes by invoking Lord Rama’s name.
‘’Sri Ramachandra, Seetha and Lakshman are all revered by us. He has now started shouting merely Jai Sriram. But I regularly say Jai Seetharam,’’ he said, pointing out that Rama is part of his name.
Siddaramaiah said the Congress government’s programmes and guarantees are for people of all religions, castes and even parties. “We walk the talk and our government has delivered as promised,’’ he said, deriding Modi’s regime for not fulfilling even one of the promises of the prime minister.
He said that he has seen people who operate trains, and used the Kannada colloquial term ‘’Railu Biduvudu’’ for those making tall claims and assailed BJP and Modi of always making tall claims.
Listing out the promises made by Modi, Siddaramaiah went on asking questions as to what happened to bringing the black money stashed abroad, depositing Rs 15 lac in each person’s bank account, doubling income of farmers, creating 2 crore jobs every year, ushering in Acche Din, bringing in Make in India, increasing the value of rupee against the dollar and ridding India of the debt burden.
“Modi did nothing and not fulfilled any of the promises. The country’s total debt burden has jumped to Rs 183 lakh crore now against the Rs 53 lakh crore in 2014. Is Modi’s way of solving the debt burden in increasing the country’s debt burden by Rs 130 crore?’’ he asked.
The chief minister said Mysuru-Kodagu and Chamarajanagar as traditional Congress strongholds and must be won by the party.
“All the surveys conducted by the party indicate that Congress will win at least 20 out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the State, including Mysuru-Kodagu and Chamarajanagar,” he predicted.
Lashing out JD(S) for its alliance with BJP, Siddaramaiah lambasted JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and reminded him about his public declaration that he will leave the country if Modi becomes prime minister.
“Besides promising to leave the country if Modi becomes prime minister, Deve Gowda had expressed the wish to become a Muslim in his next birth. He has forgotten all that he said and has now aligned with BJP,” he said.
Siddaramaiah lashed out at Deve Gowda for fielding his son-in-law Dr C N Manjunath to contest on a BJP ticket from Bengaluru Rural. “Deve Gowda seems to indicate that he will follow later after first sending his son-in-law to BJP. It is better if the S for Secular is removed from the JD(S) name,’’ he suggested.
