Bengaluru, Mar 22: Overruling the single judge bench that prohibited the government’s plans of holding board exams for students of fifth, eighth and ninth grades of the state, the Karnataka high court gave the go-ahead for the same. After hearing the appeal of the government against the initial verdict, the two-member bench ruled in favour of the government.
The government is asked to take necessary steps to conduct the board exams in the subjects that are remaining. Association of private schools was against holding board exams for students. Even the parents of wards also wanted the examination to be held only at the school level. However, the education department went ahead and held board exams for two subjects. The students were confused because of the tug-of-war between the education board and the private school association. Now the high court has put an end to all confusion. The remaining examinations will be held by the board itself.
The education department is likely to issue an order to this effect on the dates of the exams. Exams of 11th grade are over while two subjects for 5, 8 and 9 grades are held. Remaining subjects will begin from Monday in all probability.
Lokesh Thalikatte, president of RUPSA said, “We are still confident of getting justice for our appeal to conduct SA2 at school level instead of board exams. We will file a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard. Our earlier petition to SC was directed to HC to hold a thorough hearing. We are bound to accept the HC order for the time being but will apply in SC again against the order.”
