Udupi, March 19: “Every eligible voter should participate in the voting process for strengthening the democratic set-up in the country,” said zilla panchayat chief executive and sweep committee president Prateek Bayal.
He was speaking after presiding over a Sweep committee meeting at zilla panchayat auditorium, Rajatadri in Manipal on Tuesday, March 19.
“Every eligible voter should cast their votes in the Udupi – Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency on April 26 and achieve 100% voting. The officials concerned should create awareness about elections among everybody,” he said.
“Special care should be taken to ensure basic facilities in the polling booths. There should be special facilities to senior citizens, specially-abled and women. There should be special provision to vote at residences for senior citizens above 85 years of age, especially those who are unable to go to the polling booth to vote,” Bayal said.
“Sweep activities and information programmes should be held to increase the voting percentage in booths where the percentage of voting was low during the last elections. Voters should not get lured by anything and cast their votes without fear. BLOs should distribute voter chits to houses with the numbers for convenience," he said
Every voter in the district will be able to verify if their names are included in the voter’s list. If their names are missing, there is a provision to submit an application through the website and include them in the list,” he said.
Zilla panchayat assistant secretary Radhakrishna Adiga, district health and family welfare officer Dr I P Gadad, deputy director of public instruction Ganapathi, deputy director of women’s and children’s development, Shamala C K, labour officer Kumar, social welfare department deputy director Anita Madloor, DDPU Maruthi, district spokesperson Manjunath B and others were present.
