Bantwal, Mar 19: A tragic incident occurred near the temple in Shamboor village, resulting in the death of Lohitaksha, a resident of Beltangady, while swimming in the Netravati river. Lohitaksha was accompanied by his friends Vincy, Maxi, Pramod, and Dayananda, who frequently visited Shamboor for recreational activities, including swimming in the river.

According to reports, around 4 pm on Monday, Lohitaksha mentioned he was heading back to the car after swimming. However, when his friends returned to the car, they couldn't locate him. Upon searching, they found Lohitaksha in the river, where despite their efforts, he tragically passed away.

Initially, suspicions arose among locals, but the police have ruled out foul play, suggesting Lohitaksha may have sustained a fatal head injury near the car. An investigation is underway, with the police intending to question Lohitaksha's friends for further details.

The incident garnered attention from local authorities and villagers, prompting the gram panchayat president and others to gather at the site. Inspector Shivakumar has registered a case related to Lohitaksha's demise.
