Kasaragod, March 18: In a tragic incident, a private bus overturned at Chalingal on the national highway here on Monday, March 18, in the evening.

The driver of the bus got killed and 20 people including students sustained injuries in the mishap.

The deceased was Madhoor resident Chetan Kumar (37). The bus was Kannur-bounf from Mangaluru. The accident happened near Peria grama panchayat office, Chalingal.

 

An alternative route was charted at Chalingal to construct a polling booth as the highway is being developed. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle he was driving at a road curve and the bus got toppled. Those who were stuck under the bus were pulled out by the locals, fire brigade personnel and the police and rushed to hospital.

    First of all catch the yamadoota driver's on the stop beat him black & blue make him half dead then give him treatment so that other driver's soul should think before driving.

    Manoj Udipi,sad you wrote this.We are good to beat black and blue.But dont know one to treat who gets injured.Kindly first findout what caused the accident whether driver got any heartattack ?Good that not anyother passenger got seriously injured or lost life.Heartfelt sympathy to his family.May his soul rest in peace.One should experience whole day sitting as driver ,7 days a week steering whole month ,hear what people say,stress .Then can say why driver life is hard in India.Whole day hot sun .

    We need to be the RTO and the Central ministry of roads and highways to install speed-limit controller (Speed Limiter, also known as Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA), is a system installed on cars and other heavy vehicles that prevents us from going over a set speed. It works in two ways: a manual system works similar to cruise control in that the driver has to set the speed himself). Mangalore and udupi city buses have absolutely no mental and physical control on their speeds and drivers and conductors do not have any respect for traffic rules or lives of pedestrians. People in our region are busy with religious division, but one of the burning issues is our traffic system where thousands are killed every year due to reckless driving.
