Udupi, Mar 16: “Senior citizens are the assets of our family and society, they should be provided with proper information about the laws and privileges available to them and make good use of them," said Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, diocese of Udupi.  

He was speaking while presiding over a large gathering of senior citizens organized by the diocese's family commission at St Lawrence Basilica Hall, Attur.

Senior civil judge of Udupi district and member secretary of legal services authority Sharmila S spoke and informed the senior citizens about the laws and how to prevent violence against them.

Niranjana Bhat M, retired assistant director of Udupi district senior citizens empowerment department, gave advice on life management and safety of senior citizens.

Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general Udupi diocese, Fr Paul Rego, deanery head of Karkala deanery, Fr Alban D'Souza, rector St Lawrence Basilica Attur, Alphonse D’Costa, president of Senior Citizens' Forum Udupi diocese, vice president Arvin D'Souza, and secretary Irene Menezes were present.

Alphonse D’Costa welcomed, Arvin D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Director of family commission Leslie Aroza coordinated the programme.
