Udupi: Karnataka state women’s anti-violence federation to observe women’s vigilance day on Mar 8, 9

Udupi, March 7: “Karnataka state women’s anti-violence federation, a network of the pro-women and pro-people organisations will be holding this year’s women’s vigilance day at Udupi on March 8 and 9,” informed the federation during the press conference held at the Akhila Vidyasandra, Bengaluru.

“The federation was formed after the pub attack in Mangaluru and the brutal Nirbhaya rape case in New Delhi. So far international women’s days were observed as women’s vigilance day in 12 districts in the state. Rallies, conventions and awareness programmes were held in those districts. Women from all walks of life are participating in them. Preparatory meetings and workshops were being held since the last eight months for this month’s programme,” said Vani Periodi, Mangaluru.

“A symposium will be held at 9.30 am on March 8, International women’s day. A rally will be held at Ajjarkad war memorial, Ajjarkad at 10 am on March 9,” said Akhila Vidyasandra.

Janaki Brahmavar, Lynette based in Dharwad, Veronica Cornelio of Udupi, Hamaira Karkala, Krithi, Rekha and others were present.

“The women participating in the programme will be wearing black clothes and stand all along beside the road,” she said.
