Kadaba, Feb 8: It has come to light that Sebastian (47), a resident of Nelyadi, allegedly cheated Kamadhenu Mahila Sahakara Sangha of Nelyadi and the Odiyoor multipurpose cooperative society of Uppinanagady by pledging fake golden bangles. Sebastian has also been accused of cheating the Alanakaru branch of Pattina Sahakara Sangha of the Vokkaliga community.
Sebastian, along with Danish of Kerala origin, obtained a loan of Rs 1.40 lac from Kamadhenu Mahila Sahakari Sangha of Nelyadi on January 27 by pledging four fake golden bangles weighing 30 grams each. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the bangles were fake. The manager of the bank, Chaithanya C H, registered a case regarding this matter at the Uppinangady police station.
On January 30, Sebastian pledged four more bangles resembling gold at the Pattina Sahakari Sangha of Alangaru and obtained a loan of Rs 1.35 lac. The branch manager, Revati, has filed a complaint regarding this incident at the Kadaba police station.
Subsequently, the same duo approached the Odiyoor multipurpose cooperative society in Uppinangady and obtained a loan of Rs 1.70 lakh by pledging five more fake golden bangles. The manager, Kamala, lodged a complaint about this with the Uppinangady police station.
Police are currently investigating the possibility of the accused individuals having defrauded additional cooperative banks.
