Mangalore, Sep 13: In an incident that occurred at Tokkottu junction near here on Monday September 12, a car driver, who was trying to overtake a bus, hit three motor bikes, and injured five persons, including a pedestrian.
Mohammed Sajid, a resident of Manjeshwar, was moving from the city to his native place in a car. In an attempt to overtake a bus at Tokkottu, he hit three motor bikes and a pedestrian, before his car came to stop after hitting a roadside kerb. A few pedestrians and the pillion rider of Vinod’s motor bike named Shravan (15), jumped to safety in a hurry, and escaped from becoming victims of the accident.
The injured have been identified as B Iqbal and Zulfikar, fish vendors from Ullal Bastipadpu, Abdul Khader and Girish from Kunajattur who were going to Mangalore, Vinod from Ullalbail, and a pedestrian named Abdulla (54) from Manjeshwar. While Zulfikar and Girish have suffered fractures in their legs, Vinod suffered injuries to his head and chest. The injuries suffered by others are not grave. All of them are being treat4d in a private hospital in Tokkottu.
It is learnt that Sajid, who was trying to escape after the accident, was stopped by the locals, who handed him to Ullal police. He has been arrested, and a case has been registered.
