Bengaluru, Dec 28: BJP opposition leader R Ashok has lambasted the Siddaramaiah regime for dilly-dallying on payment of Rs 2000 each compensation to farmers hit by drought and is instead wasting time by needlessly blaming the Narendra Modi regime at the Centre.
In a series of tweets, the BJP leader claimed that the previous government had sanctioned double compensation to farmers when they were hit by floods and droughts without waiting for Central funds.
“This is a shameless government, which has been delaying the promised compensation of Rs 2000 each and wasting its time in blaming the Centre,’’ he said pointing out that the previous chief minister B S Yediyurappa had undertaken tour of the flood affected districts in 2019 in a bid to instil confidence in farmers and the Basavaraj Bommai government had doubled the SDRF payment to farmers for crop losses.
Ashok said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced payment of compensation at Rs 2000 each to farmers and now has conveniently forgotten his promise and instead is attacking the Modi regime for not releasing money for drought relief works.
The BJP leader reminded the chief minister that he should keep aside his political differences and rush to the rescue of farmers. ``If the government does not help the farmers, they will teach a lesson to the government. This is a guarantee,’’ he warned.
He reeled out figures of amounts sanctioned for farmers by Yediyurappa and Bommai regimes and also by the Modi regime to Karnataka since 2014.
However, he has not said anything on the delay in releasing funds for drought relief even though the Central study team had visited the State in October and both the chief minister as well as Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar have already met Modi, Shah and even Finance Minister.
