Udupi: Armed Forces Personnel Accused of Sexually Harassing Woman in Train

Udupi, Sep 6: A group of young men who were travelling in a train from New Delhi to Kerala reportedly attempted to sexually harass a woman on Monday September 5.
Based on a complaint lodged by the woman, who hails from Belman here and resides in Mumbai, police have arrested Sujith T V (29) of Malappura district in Kerala, Deepesh (22) of Bovikkana of Kasargod district, Anand K of Aleppi district, Santhosh (39) of Calicut and Deepesh (24) of Kozikode and booked them under sections 354, 509 and 34. Rest of the accused managed to escape.
The woman was commuting by Mangala Express which started at 9 am on Saturday from Delhi for Udupi. About 10 to 12 passengers belonging to the Indian Armed Force who were in groups were also commuting to Kerala. When the train reached Nasik on Sunday, the group reportedly started misbehaving with the woman. They also used obscene language, it is learnt.
On Monday when the train crossed Byndore at 10.25 am, they harassed her sexually and continued doing so till 12.30 pm, it is alleged.
The woman lodged a complaint with Manipal Railway police. On learning about the incident, the public assaulted four of the accused.
A case has been registered by the police of Konkan railway station of Manipal.
