Udupi: Teacher's Day Tragedy - Five Including Lecturers Injured in Car-Bus Collision

Udupi, Sep 5: Five persons including four teachers were injured in a ghastly mishap that occurred between a Maruti Baleno and a private express bus near Udyavar junction on NH 66, here on Monday September 5 morning.
Katpady SVS Pre-University College teachers Jadabharata Sharma, Dilip Kumar Bansode and Shantaram P, Kota Pre-University College teacher Rajgopal and Vivek Krishna were injured in the accident.
Jadabharata Sharma, Vivek Krishna and Rajgopal are in critical condition, informed police sources.
The accident took place when the teachers were on their way to a protest rally by lecturers.
Eye-witnesses said that recklessness of the bus driver while overtaking resulted in the tragedy. Traffic was obstructed for nearly an hour on Monday morning.
The car was badly crushed under the impact, however, the bus was only partly damaged.
Police personnel led by Kaup sub-inspector Mohan Kottari and locals assisted in taking the injured to hospital.
Kaup police registered a case in this regard.
The protest was later cancelled as a mark of respect to the injured. However, the organisers did submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner outlining their demands.
