Mumbai, Sep 2: The passengers of Turkish Airways flight TK-720 with 97 persons on board including its crew, had a providential escape as the plane skidded off the taxiway during landing at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 4.13 am on Friday September 2.
The officials said that the flight, which was from Istanbul to Mumbai, veered away and got stuck in the mud.
The accident caused delays as the main runway at the local airport was closed immediately thereafter. As a result, a number of flights are expected to be hit, as the flight operations were shifted to secondary runway. Heavy rains in the city have also been hampering visibility at the airport, causing temporary closures of the runway.
The directorate general of civil aviation has ordered for an inquiry into the incident. It may be recalled That 260 passengers of an Air India flight from Jeddah to the city had a miraculous escape on Wednesday, as the plane made an emergency landing.
It is gathered that a technical snag in the plane’s hydraulic control system had forced it to make an emergency landing.
