Margao, Sep 2: Three Konkani books published by Borkars Production and Publication-Ponda, penned by Sanjay Borkar, Nayana Adarkar, Branda Menezes and Saraswati Naik were released recently here at Goa Woodlands Hotel.
Sandesh Prabhudesai, editor-in-chief of Prudent Media was the chief guest of the occasion. Sudesh Naik, headmaster of government school Sadollshe-Cancona, was the guest of honor. Noted linguist Damodar Ghanekar presided over the function.
'Mangallsutra’, a collection of short stories penned by Sanjay Borkar, was released by Prabhudesai. While 'Jaadwachi Harshi’, a collection of children’s short stories by Borkar was released by Ghanekar and 'Raanpisaam’, an anthology of children’s short stories, monologue and poems, penned by noted writer and poetess Nayana Adarkar, Branda Menezes and Saraswati Naik was released by Naik.
Prabhudesai while delivering his speech congratulated all four writers and stressed on the need of children's literature in Konkani language.
According to him, Konkani language can be preserved by offering good literature to children, for this, Goa Konkani Academy should give grants to writers or publishers thrice than now given.
Children can be attracted to Konkani literature by giving them good and colourful literature. If colourful pictures are included in a book, children will look forward to read the book, said Prabhudesai.
He also stressed that the Goa Konkani Academy should involve youths in forming schemes and to develop Konkani languages efforts should be made to bring center of CIIL-Mysore to Goa. So the youth from here can give maximum time for cause.
Ghanekar while speaking on the occasion expressed his happiness that Konkani speaking people from Mangalore are working tirelessly for the betterment of Konkani language and lamented saying that such efforts are not seen in Goa, although Goa has a majority of people speaking the same language.
He suggested that Goa Konkani Academy should work as an academic body and said that writers should give importance to Anuswar (a symbol showing nasal accent in Devnagari script) which is the heart of Konkani language.
Borkar lamented that in Goa artists or writers have to give 20 percent commission (bribe) to officials to avail the government schemes. Narrating a similar incident in his life, he said that just because he refused to give bribe, his file was not passed.
Noted writers and poets among others were present.
