Udupi, Nov 21: "As a poet, I have been always trying to reflect my surroundings in my poems. I try and address various social issues through my poems. I know poetry is not easy to understand, but the experience of a reader makes him understand poetry with its feel," said Jocy Sidhakatte, poet writer and journalist.
He was speaking at Sahitya Akademi's Kavisandhi and Kathasandhi programme at Ranga Parichaya Pamboor, Udupi, hosted by Sahitya Akademi and Parichaya Trust on November 19.
Popularly known as Jocy, Fr Joseph Cyril presented his poems and shared his thoughts on his poems and his poetic journey. He recalled his early days of poetry writing and reading. He also emphasized the stand of poets on current burning issues and their humanitarian thoughts.
He addressed the queries on the poems and explained in brief how poets influenced the society through their poems and perceptions.
Academy award winner and senior writer Gokuldas Prabhu read his short story and shared his thoughts in the Kathasandhi programme. He expressed his understanding of characters which come in his stories and their picturisation. He also made few comments on short story writers' social thinking and imaginary power.
Melwyn Rodrigues, convenor , language advisory board, Sahitya Akademi, Fr Henry Mascarenhas, parish priest, Pamboor Church, and Dr Vincent Alva, managing trustee, Ranga Parichaya Trust Pamboor were present on dais.
