India sends relief assistance to quake-hit Nepal


New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS): India on Sunday sent relief assistance to earthquake-hit Nepal as part of its "Neighbourhood First Policy".

"Providing emergency relief assistance to earthquake affected areas of Nepal. As a first responder, India delivers medicines and relief material. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Neighbourhood First policy in action," External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on 'X'.

Nepal on November 3 was jolted after an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude had struck the Jajarkot district, about 500 km west of Kathmandu.

Friday's earthquake was the most devastating one in Nepal since the 2015 earthquake, that had killed around 9,000 people and injured more than 22,000 others.

So far, 157 people have been killed and around 200 have been injured in Jajarkot and Rukum districts of the Himalayan nation, due to Friday's earthquake.
