Beltangady, Aug 23: Members of the Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra ®, Vimukti, Ujire, along with Dakshina Kannada Rural Development Society (DKRDS), Anugraha Pre-University College, Ujire parish unit of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), and all the like-minded people of the taluk gathered at taluk office here on Monday August 22, and raised slogans against the burning issue of corruption in the country.
The protest rally was inaugurated with the traditional demon dance symbolizing corruption and evil spirits.
Addressing the protesters, S G Bhatt, public relations officer, Benaka Health Centre, Ujire, said that corruption can be rooted out only if all segments of the society unite to fight against corruption. He urged the people to sustain the demand for Jan Lok Pal Bill till it’s passed in Parliament.
Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, director, Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, called upon all the people to support the fight for a strong Jan Lok Pal Bill and to fight courageously from the grass roots level to do away with corruption. He pointed out what the simple, ordinary, village people can do for the eradication of corruption.
Protesters led by Fr Mascarenhas, submitted copies of memorandums to sub-registrar Srinivas, Tahsildar Muralidar, chief executive officer Nagaraj, town panchayat president Narayan Bhat, taluk health officer Kalamadhusudan Shetty, and government hospital officer Dr Adam.
The assembled people and government officers pledged not to receive or give bribes and not to indulge in any kind of corrupt activities.
Patriotic and vigilante songs as well as traditional dances added flavour to the protest rally.

Fr Jose, director of DKRDS, Professor Vasant, Ujire parish ICYM president, was also present on the occasion.
The rally concluded with a national anthem.
