Bangalore, Aug 22: Former state Chief Minister (CM), who had got admitted into Sagar Apollo Hospital here for general health check up including tests to determine levels of his diabetes control and high blood pressure, was discharged on Sunday August 21. Thereafter, he took a stroll in Lalbagh before having snacks at MTR Hotel. He said he is fit, and will go ahead with plan to tour the state to strengthen base of the party.
At the same time, signals emanating from New Delhi say that the central leaders have asked Yeddy not to undertake the tour of the state as planned by him. They are of the opinion that the tour by a CM facing various charges will work to damage the future prospects of the party, and that his tour might take a toll of the party’s image. The concern appears to be more pronounced this time, because of the upbeat mood of the people to fight against corruption, as per a call given by social activist, Anna Hazare.
It is gathered that the senior party functionaries have instructed party office bearers and legislators not to take part in the programmes Yeddyurappa may organize, if he decides to overlook party’s diktat and go ahead with his earlier decision. At the same time, they have asked the concerned not to get involved with any friction with Yeddyurappa, and to convey to the central leadership about any misunderstandings that may crop up because of this instruction.
Yeddyurappa, who had announced about his plan to undertake whirlwind tour of the state immediately after resigning, had to put his plan on hold because of various reasons including ministry expansion. His plan to hold a dharna in front of the statue of Gandhiji in the city against corruption, which some felt would embarrass the party, did not materialise. The adamant posture of Yeddyurappa in deciding to go ahead with his tour of the state has caused headache for the BJP top brass, who are a bemused lot now.
