Mangaluru, Oct 2: The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is marked with much zeal across the globe. This day is also celebrated as the international day of non-violence to honour Mahatma Gandhi's principles. To commemorate this day various programmes are conducted in schools and a cleanliness drive is one of ventures to create awareness of keeping the surroundings clean.
St Agnes School CBSE observed the day with teachers and students participating in the celebration with respect and admiration for the great man. The students highlighted the values and virtues propagated by Mahatma Gandhi. The short cultural programme began with invoking God’s blessings led by the students and it was followed by a mesmerizing welcome dance and formal welcome. The significance of the day was put forth carrying the message of the sacrifice of the great man. A spectacular dance on the song Bapu Ki Betien was presented with a meaningful skit on Swatch Bharath. A melodious action song on Gandhiji Ke teen Bandar was also presented on the day. The portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was garlanded by the school principal.
To celebrate this day empathetically a cleanliness drive was organised in the school. Students and teachers hand in hand cleaned the school premises to create awareness of the importance of cleanliness in one's neighbourhood and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Josephine Ignetto, a senior faculty at St Agnes School CBSE graced the occasion as the chief guest and expressed her thoughts on truth, non-violence and cleanliness, the values upheld by Gandhiji. She urged the students to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi the great leader and become wonderful citizens of the country.
Principal Sr Maria Sarika AC, vice principal Sr Lenita Lobo AC, Sr Sweedal Fernandes AC, staff and students were present for the programme.
The programme was compered by Crisel Ana Lasrado, Janice Rachel Mascarenhas and Supreetha. Ahana S Amin welcomed the gathering and vote of thanks was proposed by Deanna Serah Lasrado expressing gratitude for the active participation of the students and staff. As a mark of celebration sweets were distributed at the end of the event.
