Puttur, Aug 19: Under the aegis of the taluk Nagarika Committee, thousands of students staged a protest rally at Uppinangady on Thursday August 18, to urge the union administration to release Anna Hazare who is imprisoned in Tihar prison, New Delhi.
RSS veteran leader Monappa Sapalya inaugurated the protest rally by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the park in Uppinangady on Thursday morning.
Addressing the protesters, the taluk Working Journalists’ Association president Santosh Shantinagar said that every citizen of the country has the right to seek information on any individual facing corruption charges. “The Jan Lokpal Bill empowers the authorities to take legal action against such corrupt politicians. The entire nation is supporting Anna Hazare, a crusader against corruption,” he added.
Nagarika Committee chief convener U K Radha, leaders Purushottam Munglimane, Sunil Daddu, Umachandra Maniyani, Jayant Puroli, U Rama, Dr Rajaram, Ravindra Darbe, Divakar Acharya, Bhaskar Acharya, Jaya Vikram, Abbas Bastikar, Shoukat Ali, Yatish Shetty, students’ leader Dhananjay Nattebail, Jagdish Shetty, Sundar Gowda, and Yashwant J led the protest rally.
The protesters presented a memorandum to revenue department officer Poovappa to forward it to the union government.
