Udupi, Aug 12: In a head-on collision between a tempo and a bus at Uppinakote near Brahmavar in the taluk on the evening of Thursday August 11, ten persons were injured. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.
All those injured are from Bagalkot district and were travelling in the tempo. Hanumant (42) from Hunagunda taluk, was admitted to Manipal Hospital with critical injuries, after providing preliminary treatment at Brahmavar. The other injured were admitted to a private hospital in Brahmavar for treatment, where they are recovering.
The tempo was bringing to Udupi construction workers, after attending to construction work of a building at Uppinakote. As soon as the tempo entered the national highway from the village, a bus rammed it. Both the vehicles suffered extensive damages in the accident. Most of the workers were injured because of the impact of the concrete mixer and other implements loaded onto their vehicle. Hanumant suffered deep injuries in his abdomen, as a part of the machinery struck him when the vehicle came to a standstill all of a sudden.
The injured persons are migrant labourers residing in the town since the last several years. None of the bus passengers were injured. A case was registered in Brahmavar police station in this connection.
