Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS): Indian equities markets Thursday were trading on a subdued note as traders took a breather after gains in the previous session.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened lower at 17,056.61 points was ruling 17,143.31 points, up 12.8 points or 0.07 percent compared to its previous close at 17,130.51 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also trading flat at 5,156.15 points.
Broader markets nudged up. The BSE midcap index was ruling 0.25 percent up and the BSE smallcap index was trading 0.24 percent higher.
The market breadth at the BSE was mixed with 770 stocks moving up, compared to 742 on the decline and 66 remaining unchanged.
Most major Asian markets were trading lower as traders booked profits after Wednesday's rise.
The benchmark Japanese Nikkei was down 1.17 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.46 percent.
The Chinese Shanghai Composite index was, however, holding up with a 0.43 percent gain.
