Mangaluru: Carmel School holds awareness programme on menstrual health, hygiene

Mangaluru, Aug 19: The department of Public Health - K S Hegde Medical Academy organized a workshop on ‘Menstrual Hygiene and Best Practices’ for the students of grades 6-10 in the school auditorium on August 18 in order to support girls and bring awareness on menstrual and gender related issues.

The enlightening session ‘Blooming with Confidence - Your path to Care, Comfort and Choices’ commenced with a soulful prayer song that filled the hearts of the gathering with positivity and harmony. Mackwin D’Mello, head at department of public health - K S Hegde Medical Academy gave intuitiveness on health and hygiene and thereby introduced the keynote speakers of the day to the amassed.

Dr Shahal Mansoor and Pooja - MPH scholars, department of public health, KSHEMA, the resource persons of the day addressed the following topics:

 a) Female Genital Tract Anatomy

 b) Menstruation: Its definition and nature

 c) Menstrual Hygiene Management - Concept, Components, Practices-washing, drying, disposal and Materials of   Menstrual Hygiene.

 d) Nutrition and Exercise

Sr Smitha AC – superior of St Ann’s Convent and joint secretary of St Ann’s Institutions was present for the programme.

Shanvitha of grade 10 compered the programme. Jenisha and Sreshta of grade 10 welcomed and proposed the vote of thanks.
