Mangalore, Aug 3: A function to pay homage to the late Victor Rodrigues and his contribution to Konkani literature was organised at Bendur Church Hall here recently, on the occasion of his first death anniversary.
His wife Celine Rodrigues released his first Novel "Bonglyanthli Khun" and set up a fund in his memory under the management of Samanvaya and handed over a cheque of Rs one lac to Dr Pius F Pinto, managing trustee of Samanvaya.
Dr Pius F Pinto spoke on the newly published novel and shared his memories of Victor Rodrigues.
The released novel 'bonglyanthli Khun' was earlier published in Konkani weekly 'Poinary'. The fund will be utilized for an annual award one who contributes to Konkani language and literature.
Celine Rodrigues also announced the entire sale of rights of all literary works by Victor Rodrigues to Samanvaya.
The function commenced with prayers by Bendur parish priest Fr Antony Michael Serrao.
A close friend of Rodrigues, Dr Edward Nazareth condoled the family and spoke about Victor Rodrigues' contributions to Konkani literature from the age of 23.
Nazareth said that though not highly educated Victor was a gifted writer and made use of his talent to reach out to all Konkani lovers through his memorable stories.
He was a polite and simple person and his job never affected his writing abilities. His untimely demise is a great loss to the Konkani world and this void can never be filled, Nazareth added.
"Victor Rodrigues is not here with us but he will be alive through his stories", said Dr Nazareth.
There was a power point presentation on the life and death of Victor Rodrigues. Many writers apart from the friends and family were present.
Relston Crasta proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Ronald Cutinha, director, Samanvaya compered the programme and also preached the homily on his death anniversary holy mass held prior to the function.
