Mumbai, Jul 10: Moolooru Deju Shetty (95) known among Tulu Kannadigas as Banta Kulabhooshana M D Shetty passed away at his Bandra west residence today, July 10.
He hailed from Kaup, Dakshina Kannada district and was appointed Maharashtra state president of Indira Brigade during the term of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1973. He was elected president of Bunts Sangha Mumbai in 1977. He merged Nithyananda Night High school, Worli to Bunts Sangha, included Swami Muktananda auditorium in Bantara Bhavan and created a women’s wing. He published Bantarawani, mouthpiece of Bantara Sangha, founded Bunts higher education scheme in 2006, Annaleela arts institute, Shobha Jayarama Shetty BMS college, conducted golden jubilee and 1978 diamond jubilee in 2004 as their president.
He was the founder president of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association Maharashtra. He was the president of Bunts justice board and honorary lifetime member of the federation.
He is survived by his daughter in law, grandchildren and a large number of friends and relatives. His last rites were held at Shivaji Park crematorium, Dadar at night on July 10.
