Bengaluru: St John's Medical College and Hospital holds blood donor day awareness programme

Bengaluru, Jun 13: World Blood Donors Day is celebrated every year on June 14. This year’s theme for the day ‘Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often’. In preparation for commemorating this day, the Medico- Social Work Department of St. John's Medical College and Hospital, in association with the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology organized an impactful blood donor day awareness programme.

The event aimed to educate the public about the significance of blood donation and inspire them to contribute towards saving lives. The event was organised at the busy traffic junction of Koramangala-Sarjapur road-Hosur road signal junction.

The programme commenced with an energetic flash mob, captivating the attention of all attendees. Fr Charles Davis the associate director of the college and in-charge of the hospital, delivered an insightful talk highlighting the importance of blood donation. Sr Riya Emmanuel, the chief nursing service, spoke about the essence of voluntary blood donation, emphasizing the dire need for blood in medical emergencies.

Nataraj, circle inspector of Koramangala, Fr Tony A J associate director of finance, Dr Arvind Kasthuri chief medical services, Dr Shanthala Devi A M head of the department of Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology and Sachin K Thomas, head of the department of Medico Social Work were also present at the event. The event began with an act symbolizing the act of blood donation, with the dignitaries pouring water into a plant, symbolizing life-giving blood.

The response from the public was overwhelming, as they were actively engaged in various awareness activities throughout the program. Participants were educated about the process of blood donation and the impact it has on saving lives. Slogans were passionately shouted, and a captivating flash mob performance showcased the enthusiasm and commitment of the attendees. The informative talks delivered by the esteemed dignitaries left a lasting impression on the audience, motivating them to contemplate the significance of blood donation in their lives.

The programme concluded on a high note, with attendees expressing their gratitude to the Department of Medical Social Work for organizing such a meaningful event.
