Mangaluru: Student council election held at Carmel School

Mangaluru, Jun 13: Carmel School conducted school parliament the election for the post of captain and vice-captain on June 9 to promote a democratic style of School Leadership and encourage students to be good sailors while cruising through the ocean of life.

Students went through different stages and processes similar to real-life political elections. Interested 31 students of grades 9 and 10 registered themselves as candidates for the election. 

The nominations filed by the candidates were scrutinized by the principal and the class mentors. Among the total 31 nominations filed, four candidates were shortlisted to contest the election.

The candidates were provided with a platform to put forth their agenda through election campaign speeches from class to class and during the morning assembly. Sonia Monteiro, Reena and  Zeena Menezes served as polling officers and sister Premal A C, the vice principal played the role of the chief election officer.

The balloting was conducted at different election booths systematically set up at various classrooms. The students from grades 6 to 10 were eligible to vote. The teachers validated the exercise of their vote by applying the indelible ink on their left index fingernails to prevent the duplication of voting. The confidentiality of voting and the transparency of procedures were maintained at all the stages of election. Then the votes were counted by a team of teachers. The official declaration of the election results was made by the principal. Jenisha of grade 10 was elected as the captain and Sahithya of grade 9 as the vice-captain for the academic year 2023-24.

Sr Lilly Pushpa, principal in her wishing address to the leaders gave a clarion call to put the needs of others first and help the schoolmates develop and perform as highly as possible.
