Mangaluru: Monsoon in Kerala at last – To enter coastal Karnataka in next two days

Mangaluru, Jun 9: The much awaited monsoon entered Kerala on Thursday and brought relief to people who were distraught by the heat and water scarcity.

Usually the monsoon enters Kerala in the last week of May or first week of June. This year it arrived a week late. In another two days monsoon will begin in coastal Karnataka region also.

The weather department said that the south and central part of Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, most parts of Kerala, and some parts of South Tamil Nadu, Camorin areas, Gulf of Mannar and some parts of Bay of Bengal have received Monsoon on Thursday.

Dr Raje Gowda, weather scientist of Bengaluru Agricultural University said, “Monsoon entered Kerala coast on Thursday. Within a day or two it will enter the coastal region of Karnataka also. Both coastal districts will receive good rains. According to the present forecast, this year also the rain will be as usual.”

In the meantime, the Biporjoy cyclone that is formed on Arabian Sea will pick up velocity in the next 48 hours. In the next three days wind velocity will be 135 to 145 km per hour. In the wake of this, fishermen are warned not to venture in sea for the next five days. This cyclone is named by Bangladesh.

    Monsoon has already arrived in Mangalore and Karnataka. There is heavy rainfall in Mangalore since yesterday morning. The monsoon rains are much needed and thankfully they have arrived since 9th June morning.
