Moodbidri, Jun 4: Corpus Christi Church witnessed a momentous occasion on Sunday, June 4, as the catechism inauguration took place in the presence of a large gathering of children, parents, and parishioners. The event held immense significance as it aimed to reinforce the importance of religious education and the role of parents as the first teachers of faith.
Under the guidance of Fr Onil D'Souza, the parish priest, the ceremony commenced with a symbolic act. Fr Onil poured water into the bowls held by the children standing at the altar, signifying their initiation into the catechism programme. Additionally, the catechism teachers illuminated candles held by their young wards, symbolizing the light of knowledge and faith being passed on.
Notably, two parents were observed carrying Holy Bibles beside their children, highlighting their crucial role as the primary educators of faith in their homes. This gesture emphasized the significance of parental involvement in nurturing religious values in the younger generation.
Following the inaugural ritual, a solemn Mass was offered, uniting the congregation in prayer and thanksgiving. Fr Onil led the congregation in a special prayer, seeking blessings and guidance for the catechism teachers. Their service in imparting Biblical knowledge to the children was acknowledged and appreciated during this moment of communal worship.
The catechism inauguration at Corpus Christi Church not only served as a formal commencement of religious education but also highlighted the vital role of parents and teachers in shaping the spiritual journey of the children. It was a day filled with reverence, devotion, and a renewed commitment to instilling strong faith foundations in the young minds of the parish.
