Udupi: Man loses Rs 4,87,000 via online transactions in part-time job fraud

Udupi, May 29: A person who responded to a message on Facebook offering an online part-time job lost Rs 4,87,000 through online transactions.

Shashidhar (30), a resident of Baragundi, Albady believed a message posted on facebook on May 1 as genuine and logged into it. The fraudsters made him believe that a commission would be paid to him on completion of the assigned task. The unidentified persons asked him to transfer some money for the tasks to the bank account details sent by them in the telegram app.   

The victim believed them and transferred a sum of money online via Phonepe and electronic transfer totalling Rs 4,87,000 to the bank accounts between May 15 and 22.

Shashidhar came to know later that he was cheated as he was neither given the job nor did he get a refund of the amount that he had paid.

A case under crime registration No. 99/2023 section 66 (C ), 66 (D), IT Act has been registered at Cen crime police station here in this connection.
