Bantwal, May 21: A person's hand was chopped off using a sword in an attempt to murder incident at Kelaginamandadi in Bantwal taluk on Saturday late in the night.

The victim, who has lost his hand, is identified as Shivaraj Kulal and has been admitted to a hospital. The police are on the lookout for the accused Santhosh. Personal rivalry is said to be the cause for the incident.

The accused, Santhosh called up Shivaraj, the victim and told the latter to meet him near a shop in Arbigudde. When they met, the accused raised an old issue that had occurred between the two earlier and a verbal duel followed.

Santhosh, the accused, then tried to kill the victim with a small sword when Shivaraj brought his hand to defend himself in between resulting in the latter's hand getting chopped off and falling to the ground.

On seeing what had happened to Shivaraj's hand, Santhosh fled the scene. Later, Shivaraj called up his friends and got admitted to a hospital, according to a complaint filed with the Bantwal Town police.

Gruesome .Instead of seeking accused could have taken the fallen hand and person immediately to ho spital tojoin and operate it.Accused will certainly get back .My God ,previously children were playing with stones. Now big ones are hunting with swords .Hope the person will get back to health fast. One with sword plays will also end with sword. Can he sleep good to night?Or thinking of chopping second one too?Shame on him.
