Bangalore, Jul 13 (DHNS): Taking a shortcut through a narrow ''killer'' passage to school brought an abrupt end to the life of an eight-year-old girl who was electrocuted after accidentally stepping on a live wire at Gangondanahalli on Tuesday.
The victim, Yellamma alias Sunitha, was a Class III student and the only daughter of daily wage labourer Hanumanthappa and domestic help Renukamma.
The accident occurred when Yellamma tried to gain entry through the passage near the school which is protected by fencing with an electricity pole. The connecting wire had fallen on the ground near the passage after it got separated from the pole. A few locals shifted Yellamma to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The school staff had reportedly warned the students against gaining entry through the passage.
The couple, who came to the city from Deodurga taluk in Raichur in search of greener pastures a few years ago, were staying separately for the last few months due to differences of opinion. Yellamma was living with her mother in a small house at Gangondanahalli.
“Yellamma was my only daughter. We wanted to give her good education and did not want her to be workers like us,” a highly inconsolable Renukamma said. A case has been registered against Bangalore Electric Supply Company for negligence.
