News: George Furtado, president (Konkan Taram)
Mumbai, Jul 11: Konkan Taram, Jerimeri here honoured the SSC/HSC toppers by organizing a felicitation programme at St Jude’s Church, Jerimeri, recently.
The programme began with the welcoming ceremony of new Priests. Flora D’Souza gave a small introduction about both the priests and on behalf of Konkan Taram and Konkani speaking parishners, Sr Anita, welcomed the parish priest, Fr Nelson Saldanha and Lawrence D’Souza, welcomed the principal, Fr Prakash Tuskano.
Konkan Taram also felicitated the three achievers of St Jude’s Parish. It was an honour for Catholic parishners of St Jude’s High School, as Flavia Antony Susairaj (D/o of Antony-Jacintha Susairaj, Jerimeri) scored 93% in the SSC board examination of Maharashtra and stood 2nd in St Jude’s High school - Jerimeri.
Even though it was a catholic organized high school, surprisingly the percentage of catholic students in St Jude High School is just 10% or even less. In Mumbai there are many Catholic educational institutions, but most of the time, the toppers / rank holders used to be from the non-Catholic communities. But in St. Jude High School, it was Jonita D’Souza and Ashwin D’Souza (Konkani speaking students) who were toppers in last two years and again this year, another Catholic Student Flavia Susairaj.
On behalf of Konkan Taram, Fr Prakash Tuskano, (principal of St Jude High School), presented the flower bouquet and Cash prize to Flavia Susairaj. Another student of St. Jude’s High School, Roshan D’silva (S/o William-Leena D’silva of Mangalore) who scored 91% was also honoured by Fr Nelson Saldanha.
Ashwin D’souza, (S/o Thomas-Leena D’Souza of Mangalore) who scored 90% in HSC, student of St Xavier College, Fort, Mumbai was also felicitated by Walter D’Souza.
Thereafter during the get-together, Leo D’Souza and Sr Anita who celebrated their birthdays on 20th June & 23rd June respectively, were honoured by Konkan Taram for their selfless service. Kennet Barnes, (assistant secretary of KT) compered the programme. Joseph D’souza proposed the vote of thanks.
