Mangalore, Jul 10: In a new and unexpected twist to the murder case of Razia and her daughter Zuha Fathima, the police have been accused of subjecting two teenagers to torture after arresting them.
S P Anand, district convener of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti said that some people claiming to be police forcefully took Sahan (16) and Sunil and took them to a deserted place, where they were reportedly made to admit their hand in the murder and threatened with dire consequences if they did not do so.
Anand also alleged that boys were tortured and later, on Friday July 8, dropped at Bikarnakatte. The two were then admitted to Wenlock hospital in a miserable condition, Anand added.
The statement issued by Anand goes on to say that the police are frustrated at not being able to catch the real culprits, and have been venting their anger on innocent people and torturing them. A few days ago, police had claimed that they were in possession of some new leads in the case and were closing in on the culprits. However, Anand's allegations seem to contradict the police's claim.
The Samiti has urged police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh to take immediate action against the erring policemen.
However, it is not certain if the people who 'arrested' the teenagers were really policemen as Anand claimed, or were impersonating police.
Meanwhile, police claim that investigations in the case are going on in full swing. The family members of the victims are being interrogated. Panjimogeru area being prone to drug deals and other illegal activities, this angle too is being investigated.
