Mangalore, Jul 6: Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary of Street Vendors Association affliliated to Centre of Indian Trade Unions' (CITU) informed the media on Wednesday July 6 that members and supporters of the association including political party leaders, litterateurs among other people from different segments of the society will form a human chain from State Bank Bus Terminal area to Lady Goshan on Thursday July 7 at 3 pm.
Speaing at a press conference at Press Club, Bajal said that though the MCC administration at a council meeting held on June 30 had assured alternate arrangements for street vending business in the city, it is condemnable that Operation Tiger still continues.
After forming the human chain, a protest rally will also be carried out in front of the District Commissioner’s office.
As part of further heated protest, Street vendors will also protest in front of district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar's residence.
Bajal added the association will hold indefinite fast from July 13.
Former mayor Ashraf, JDS leader Shashidhar Shetty, CITU district general secretary Vasanth Achari among others were others present.
