Mumbai, Jul 1: The Mumbai session court on Friday July 1 awarded a three-year jail term to Kannada film actor Susairaj in Neeraj Grover's murder case. But as she has already served three years in jail, she can now walk free.
The verdict was as widely expected, and her lawyer had on June 30 told the media that the maximum sentence Maria could get is three years.
A section of the media feels that Maria has been let off lightly, and that she deserves a more stringent punishment.
Grover's father, who expressed his disappointment over the verdict yesterday said that he has lost faith in the judicial sytem.
Today, speaking to reporters he further said the verdict was a 'joke'. "People know that such a big crime has been committed by Maria and Jerome. Both are equally responsible for the crime and should be given equal punishment," he said.
He also said that he would challenge the verdict in the high court. "Maria is the prime suspect, Jerome alone cannot have committed the crime as it had happened in Maria's flat."
Meantime, Jerome has been awarded 10 year jail term for the same case.
