Bangalore, Jun 27: In view of the terror threat to India’s Knowledge Capital of Bangalore, the ruling BJP on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka Government to ban Internet firm Google’s plans to create a three-dimensional panoramic view of Bangalore for its Street View service.
BJP’s Jayanagar MLA Vijayakumar and State unit media in-charge S Prakash submitted the memorandum to Home and Transport Minister R Ashok demanding permanent ban on Google’s Street View of Bangalore City on its maps platform.
The Minister later told reporters that the police had already stopped the Street View and a notice has been issued to Google voicing security concerns with the project.
The BJP, in a media release, urged the government to instruct Internet Google stop its project and hand over to police all documents with the recorded view of City’s different streets.
Bangalore is the home of IT parks and central establishments that have been on the radar of terrorists, said Prakash.
Google had formally launched the service in May and Bangalore was chosen as the first city in the country to be mapped.
Google’s service has so far covered 27 countries, which would be a convenient to terrorist and other anti-national elements, the BJP said.
Answering questions, the Minister said the Government would write to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram with request to ban Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) in the wake of involvement of some of its members in anti-social activities.
Six KFD activists were arrested in connection with the recent kidnap and murder of two college students of Hunsur in Mysore district. Activities of KFD members spread to Kerala also.
“We are gathering more information on past and present activities of KFD. Former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had demanded ban of KFD following its members’ involvement in anti-social activities,” he said.
The government has decided to appoint special prosecutor to argue the case and punish the accused who killed two students.
