Mangalore, Jun 20: Philomena (25), a resident of Kelarai near Neerumarga was allegedly kidnapped by her husband here on Monday June 20 after his efforts to patch up their relationship went in vain.
Philomena, a call centre employee, was travelling by the company cab from her home when her husband Kiran Johnson Pereira started trailing her in a Tata Safari (KA 21- MA 5866). He stopped the company vehicle near Baithulli (near Neermarga) and gagged her before taking her away forcefully. He was accompanied by 4 other associates, it is learnt.
Philomena married Kiran, a resident of Merlapadavu, six years ago and according to a source they have not been in good terms ever since their first year of marriage. She is working for Mphasis, Mangalore.
It is gathered that she had earlier registered a complaint against her husband for mentally torturing and threatening her. She had also applied for a divorce. Cab driver Yashavanth filed a complaint in Kankanady rural police station, and a case of kidnapping has been registered. Investigations are on.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Philomena's father Winni Serrao said that earlier Kiran had come to their house and had coerced her to withdraw the case filed against him. He had also demanded dowry, he alleged. The couple have been living separately for sometime now.
