Mangalore, Jun 15: A baby girl, whose age is estimated to be less than a year, was found lying without its parents or caretakers by its side, at Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand here on the evening of Tuesday June 14.
After the KSRTC personnel, who saw the crying baby, contacted Barke police station, police personnel visited the bus stand. Barke sub-inspector of police, Shivaprakash, visited the place. After making sure that the baby’s caretakers were not in and around the bus stand, he took the baby to the police station. Arrangements were later made to entrust the child to Child Development Committee.
Asha Nayak, president of the committee, said that the child was sent to Ramakrishna Sevashram in Puttur on Tuesday night, as the committee does not have the provision to take care of children below the age of six. Some feel that the parents would have decided to orphan their child, as it was a female baby. The policemen in the meanwhile have begun efforts to establish the identity of the child.
