Udupi, Jan 20: A three-day long Malpe beach festival being held jointly by the district administration, departments of Kannada and Culture and Tourism, was inaugurated by K Jayaprakash Hegde, president of the Backward Class Commission on Friday, January 20.
He said that more development and facilities should be made available and tourism should grow.
MLA K Raghupathi Bhat who presided over the programme said that several programmes are planned in the district for the next 25 years. "Tourism will be developed. Neon lighting, flyboard, clip drive yacht services on the island and scuba diving will begin. Open sea water swimming competitions, free kayaking for college students from General Thimmayya Academy, throw ball for women, drawing camp and photography competition of tourist spots will be held,” he said.
Municipal Council president Sumitra Nayak, vice president Laxmi Manjunath, standing committee president Sreesha Kodavoor, district panchayat CEO Prasanna H, SP Hakay Akshay Machindra and DC under training Yathish were present.
Deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M welcomed. Additional deputy commissioner Veena proposed a vote of thanks. Youth Empowerment and Sports department deputy director Roshan Kumar Nitte compered the programme.
Fly boards, drawing competitions and food fairs on the beach and the decorated boat in the sea were sights to watch.
A musical programme was held by well-known singer Rajesh Krishnan and group.
