Panaji, Jun 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday demanded sacking of Digambar Kamat led government in Goa for their incompetence to handle violent situation during tribal agitation.
BJP workers convention, held in Panaji today, resolved that incumbent Congress-led government should be sacked for its incompetency in handling the situation during agitation by tribals for their justified demands.
United Tribals Associations Alliance (UTAA) agitation on May 25 at Balli village had taken a bitter turn when mob burnt down two tribal leaders – Manguesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip.
BJP’s Goa state President Laxmikant Parsekar alleged that the Congress government is insensitive and indifferent to the demands of UTAA.
“The Policemen and government machinery were silent spectators when the building of Adarsh Agricultural Co-Operative Society was set ablaze and two of the agitators were brutally beaten and burnt,” he said.
“In view of the above, BJP there is of the opinion that the Congress-led government has no moral right to continue and should be immediately dismissed,” he said.
The resolution to dismiss Kamat-led government was moved by Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar during the convention which was attended by over 500 workers in Panaji.
The party has also extended its support to the Goa Bandh called by Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on June 6 in protest against incorporating English as Medium of Instruction in state’s education policy.
BJP resolved that the government should reconsider and withdraw its decision taken through a cabinet on May 25 to promote English medium school at Primary level by giving them grants.
Parsekar said that the government should maintain status quo, which means, the primary schools in Konkani and Marathi languages should get grants.
The opposition party has also decided to observe June 8 as a protest day throughout the state. Digambar Kamat government would be celebrating its fourth anniversary on that day.
Parsekar said that the party will be holding meetings all over the state and even have awareness campaign on that day.
